Mercosul Line vessel towed from Rio de Janeiro to Santos

A container ship was towed to the Port of Santos on Sunday, April 25. The Mercosul Santos freighter needed to be towed because it had problems with its engine at the beginning of its trip while it was still in Rio de Janeiro. It will unload more than a thousand containers at the maritime complex and then it will be repaired.
Mercosul Santos operates the Amazonas Service with Mercosul Line and Login Logística. The Datamar Liner Services dashboard shows the ships operating on the service, the shipowners who share space on those ships, and the port rotations.

The Mercosul Santos is owned by the shipping company Mercosul Line (CMA CGM Group) and is focused on cabotage service (maritime cargo transportation between ports along a country’s coast). The vessel arrived in Santos Bay shortly after 12 PM. It had been towed by an ocean tug – a more powerful tug used to service ships on open waters. The cargo was then moved by 4 port tugboats which are tugboats that are less powerful than the ocean tugs and operating in sheltered areas, such as ports.
The arrival of the container and tugs drew the attention of those who were walking along Santos’ waterfront in the early afternoon. The entire operation in the region was reported to the Santos Port Authority and to the Captaincy of the Ports of São Paulo. According to the pilots association, the vessel was accompanied by its pilots (the professionals who guide the ships navigating in port areas).
The port tugs maneuvered the Mercosul Santos to the Dubai Ports World (DPW) Santos terminal in the Santos Continental Area on the left bank of the port. According to information from the terminal, it docked in Berth 1 at 3:40 pm to unload 1028 containers. The service is expected to be completed this Monday, by late morning. Only then will it be towed to the dock at Warehouse 25 (where the Giusfredo Santini Passenger Terminal operates), where it will be refurbished according to the Santos Port Authority.
