According to the latest report by the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), the Mexican hides and skin industry continues to lose weight in the Brazilian market in 2022, with exports from Mexico to the South American country reducing by 56.3% in value from January to September.
According to the report, Mexico exported US$1.4 million in leather and skins in the first nine months of 2022 compared to US$3.5 million in the same period of the previous year.
According to the CICB, between January and September 2022, the Mexican industry exported only 337,788 kilograms of leather and skins to the Brazilian market, down 64% from the same period of the previous year.
In turn, shipments per area saw the largest dips in the industry, 144,180 square meters. The decrease was 66.7% compared to the first nine months of 2021, when 433,544 square meters were exported.
The world ranking of suppliers of hides and skins for the Brazilian market places Mexico in the eighth position, outweighed by the United States, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Nigeria, Bolivia, and Italy, in that order.
