Mexico suspended chicken meat import tariffs, reports ABPA
May, 16, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202220
The Presidency of the Republic of Mexico announced on Monday 16 a decree that suspends tariffs for the importation of chicken meat from countries that already have exporting plants licensed to ship the animal protein to Mexican soil.
The measure is valid for countries that, like Brazil, have established a health agreement with the Mexican authorities.
The market’s opening includes several poultry products and will be in force for at least one year. This time, there is no establishment of quotas, as has occurred in recent years with other imports from Brazil.
According to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) president Ricardo Santin, Brazilian chicken meat exporters grew relevant among partners searching for food security in Mexico.
Now, with the newly-announced tariff cut, Brazil hopes to consolidate its position even further.
