Mexico to Lift Ban on Brazilian Poultry Meat Certified by June 25

The Mexican government is set to lift its ban on Brazilian poultry meat certified by June 25. This information comes from the Department of Inspection of Animal Products of the Ministry of Agriculture, which recently amended export restrictions following a case of Newcastle Disease at a farm in Anta Gorda, Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the government update, the Brazilian government conveyed the information via an attaché at the Brazilian Embassy in Mexico. Currently, Mexico, Argentina, and China have suspended poultry product imports from Brazil due to this incident.

The federal government decided to ease restrictions after new suspicions of Newcastle Disease were dismissed during an ongoing investigation in Rio Grande do Sul. Inspection and surveillance actions are ongoing, with plans to visit over 800 poultry farms in the state to guide poultry farmers.

In addition to Mexico, Brazilian poultry exports to Bolivia, Chile, Cuba, Peru, and Uruguay remain suspended. However, for other importing countries, the Brazilian government has allowed exports from areas outside the restriction zone, mitigating the impact on the production chain.

For example, the European Union had blocked poultry imports from the entire state of Rio Grande do Sul. This restriction also applies to Japan, South Korea, Israel, and many other nations including South Africa, Albania, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Egypt, the Philippines, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Morocco, Mauritius, Myanmar, Montenegro, Namibia, Pakistan, French Polynesia, the United Kingdom, the Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan, Tajikistan, East Timor, Ukraine, the Eurasian Economic Union, Vanuatu, and Vietnam.

The Ministry of Agriculture has stated that export restriction rules will be reviewed daily in view of negotiations with import markets. The Ministry has communicated all relevant information to commercial partners.

Since last week, the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratory (LFDA-SP) in Campinas has reported five negative cases of Newcastle Disease. Currently, there are no active suspicions under investigation.
