Milk producers consider suspending deliveries to dairy industries after decreases in the paid amount

In the state of Mato Grosso, milk producers at the Araguaia Valley are unsatisfied with the amount they are being paid per liter delivered to dairy manufacturers in the region. According to representatives in this industry, the new price makes it unfeasible to commercialize milk.
Milk producers in the region explained that the amount paid per liter of milk fell 20% in comparison to the previous value. The price reduction affects cattle ranchers in municipalities such as Novo São Joaquim, Campinápolis, and Nova Xavantina, which together produce more than 75,000 liters a day.
Faced with dissatisfaction, the producers decided to mobilize. They want explanations for the decrease in the amount paid and are not ruling out suspending milk supply if the price is not revised.
“We are inviting all milk producers in the region to participate in our movement, to make everyone aware of the importance of the dairy basin and maintain the price we had before. We will present our claims and, if there are no changes from the 1st (February) onwards we will suspend delivery to dairy indefinitely until the price situation normalizes”, says the president of the rural union of Novo São Joaquim, Carlos Pires da Silva.
The Campinápolis milk producers’ cooperative stated in a note that it has always worked in the form of transfers because it does not seek profit. It also claims to be aware that the R$ 1.60 rate does not cover the producer’s costs, but this is not attributed to dairy products because cheese and mozzarella prices have also dropped.
