Minerva Foods, the largest exporter of South American bovine meat, announced last week that it intends to be carbon neutral by 2035, on the back of initiatives that will require investments of approximately R$1.5 billion. The objetive is more ambitious that those announced three weeks ago by JBS and also more ambitious than the plan unveiled by Marfrig. Last week DatamarNews reported on targets set by Heineken to go carbon neutral by 2040, including all their supply chains.
DataLiner shows that exports of Brazilian bovine meat continues to grow year after year, despite showing that Minerva’s market share dropped in 2020 compared to the previous year. The number of containers exported is considerable, surpassing 100,000 TEU per year.

Part of Minerva’s central strategy for reaching the objective set is to monitor deforestation activity in its suppliers and erradicating illegal deforestation by 2030. To do this, the company will expand its tracing capability for all cattle slaughtered on the continent by 2030, including cattle that is supplied indirectly via third parties.
