Minerva received authorization from Mexico to export beef from six plants located in Brazil, with a capacity of slaughtering approximately 7,000 cattle heads per day, said the company on March 07.
Mexico announced on March 06 sanitary requirements that opened the doors for the importation of beef from Brazil.
The approval came as President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government seeks new food supply sources to combat high inflation levels.
According to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, 34 Brazilian meat packing plants were qualified to send the bovine protein to Mexico.
Minerva, the largest exporter of beef in South America, pointed out that, in 2022, Mexico was responsible for importing approximately 108 thousand tons of meat, with the United States and Canada responsible for supplying almost all of it.
“With 130 million people, Mexico stands out as one of the world’s major beef markets,” the company said.
