On August 5th, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, accompanied by an interministerial delegation, signed 17 agreements covering various topics, marking a significant expansion in the Chile-Brazil bilateral agenda. During the event, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for technical cooperation in agriculture between MAPA and the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, Minagri.
The agreement aims to enhance the development of agricultural systems through joint implementation of programs, projects, and events in areas of mutual interest. The Chileans have shown interest in Brazil’s Climate Risk Farming Zoning (ZARC) and the ABC+ plan (Low Carbon Agriculture).
“South American integration is a reality that makes a difference in people’s lives!” President Lula emphasized. “The Brazil-Chile relationship has to improve, especially in politics, friendly relations, and the belief that both Chilean and Brazilian people deserve more. A new era has begun in the Chile-Brazil relationship,” he added.
Minister Fávaro highlighted that good relations between Brazil and its main foreign trade partners open new prospects for the national agricultural sector. “Every day, we are gaining more space and opportunities. More Brazilian activities in foreign trade mean more jobs and income here at home,” he emphasized.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric underscored the importance of the relationship and the agreements signed on Monday. “President Lula and I discussed the political work needed to strengthen our borders. We are aware that we can work for the benefit of our countries,” he stated.
Two other agreements were also signed. One is the Memorandum of Understanding on the electronic certification of wines and alcoholic beverages, which aims to improve the efficiency of exchanging official certificates and facilitate the ongoing exchange of digital versions of the documents. This initiative seeks to enhance the flow of Chilean wines to Brazil by eliminating the need for physical certificates of analysis and origin.
The other is an addendum to the memorandum on the mutual recognition of Organic Certification. The goal is to mutually recognize the normative similarities of organic production to facilitate trade between the two countries. This initiative encourages the inclusion of small and medium-sized producers in the export market.
