On a trip to Espírito Santo this Monday (May 27), Brazil’s Infrastructure Minister, Tarcisio Gomes de Freitas, launched the pilot project for the Electronic Transport Document (DT-e).
The new technology aims to reduce long queues, costs and stop time for trucks at checkpoints. The intention is to unify about 20 documents currently required for cargo transportation operations in the country, reducing bureaucracy, optimizing time and increasing productivity.
In addition to the minister, the pilot launch event was attended by the executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio Cunha Filho, the governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande and the director of the Port of Vitória, Júlio Castiglioni.

How DT-e Works
With the new technology, the information of the 20 documents that need to be presented by the truck drivers/transporters at roadside checkpoints, are now included in the system (DT-e).
With the DT-e, which will work through an application, long queues will be avoided, as well as stop time at weighing stations and in surveillance operations, which now add up to a 6-hour wait on average.
According to the minister, the goal is to connect the carrier directly to the shipper. “We will end the need for middlemen. The current process costs the truck driver, who suffers from bureaucracy and the high costs of the dispatcher services.”
The DT-e will have a simple interface for the truck driver in a system integrated to the carriers or shippers.
A chip attached to the vehicle will facilitate the electronic reading of the truck data and allow the trucker to continue traveling without the need to present paper documents at checkpoints and weighing stations.
When fully operational, the DT-e will also assist the truck driver in planning the trip, allowing the scheduling of loading and unloading operations in ports, integrated with the PortoLog and Paperless Port systems.
“Our idea is to reduce the middlemen, to use information technology to connect the transporter with the shipper” explains the minister.
The DT-e is one of the actions of “Projeto 3i”, which deals with the use of information technologies to improve the country’s multimodal logistics. The pilot will be carried out under the electronic monitoring system known as “Green Channel Brazil”, operating in 55 points in Brazil.
