Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, disclosed on Rádio Metropole’s “Good Morning, Minister” program that plans are underway to requalify the passenger terminal at the Port of Salvador. This initiative aims to boost maritime tourism alongside the port’s expanded cargo operations.
“Not only will we accommodate ships transporting commodities such as cotton, other solid bulk inputs, and liquid bulk from Bahia, but we will also enhance facilities to welcome more cruise ships. MSC, one of the world’s leading cruise operators, has expressed a growing interest in docking in Salvador. Companies like CVC and MSC have prioritized the northeast coast, which is crucial,” stated Costa Filho. He noted that last year saw over a 10% increase in cruise volume, reflecting the region’s rising popularity.
The minister emphasized the importance of positioning Salvador as a premier international tourism destination. To support this vision, the ministry plans significant investments, including over R$100 million for dredging to accommodate larger vessels at Salvador’s port.
“We are focusing not only on aviation, with an increase in international flights to Salvador, such as additional TAP flights to Portugal, but also on enhancing the maritime sector. Our goal is to requalify the passenger terminal and invest in dredging to improve port capacity,” Costa Filho explained.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to boost both the commercial and tourism sectors in Salvador, ensuring the port remains a pivotal hub for maritime and logistics activities in Brazil.
