The ministers of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, and of Infrastructure, Tarcísio de Freitas, were at the headquarters of the Santos Port Authority, on May 27, participating in the symbolic act of beginning the vaccinations for port workers from all over the country. The Santos Port Authority (SPA) was chosen to host the event because it is the place where the federal government started the new vaccination schedule for port workers.
During the symbolic act, 26 port workers were vaccinated. Those vaccinated were 8 individual workers, selected by the Labor-Management Agency (OGMO); 8 linked to port terminals, selected by the Port Operators Unions of the State of São Paulo (SOPESP); and 10 employees of Santos Port Authority (SPA).
Minister Marcelo Queiroga vaccinated the first two independent workers who work as stevedores: Jefferson Demetrio da Fonseca and Noemio Carnevale Pompeu. The vaccination schedule for the remaining ports of the State of São Paulo officially begins June 1st.
Lots will be distributed for the first dose of 100% of the port workers, according to information from the Ministry of Health. This professional category is responsible for an activity defined as essential during the pandemic and was already included in the list of groups considered a priority by the Ministry of Health in vaccination against Covid-19.
