On Wednesday (Sept. 29), city councilmen from Baixada Santista handed over to the federal government motions to support the construction of the underwater tunnel as a dry link between Santos and Guarujá. Representatives from six municipalities in the region, with the support of Congresswoman Rosana Valle (PSB/SP) and the Vou de Túnel campaign, represented by spokesperson Eduardo Lustoza, were received in Brasilia (DF) by the National Secretary for Ports and Waterway Transport of the Ministry of Infrastructure (SNPTA /MINFRA), Diogo Piloni e Silva, in Brasília.
In his speech, Piloni highlighted that the option for the tunnel was the most conservative as it offered the minimum of risks, in addition to being in line with the port and mobility objectives. “We were very happy to have an aligned set of interests. We have a very strong argument for it to become a reality. The solution is the tunnel and it will happen”, he emphasized.
The secretary reinforced the State’s decision to include the work in the project to privatize the Port of Santos and pledged to open public consultation by the end of October or early November. “The great news is that the tunnel will effectively materialize, and our region will undergo strong development, mainly in the area of community, mobility, and in the generation of jobs”, celebrated the spokesperson for the Vou de Túnel campaign, Eduardo Lustiness.
