Monthly Report: Itajaí-Açu Port Complex Releases February Data

In February, the Rio Itajaí-Açu Port Complex reached a total cargo throughput of 1,130,433 tonnes. Of this total, 547,384 tons were directed for export, and 583,049 tons were imported. In the first months of 2024, the port complex handled 2,138,078 tonnes.
Regarding container operations/TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), 106,105 TEUs were handled in February, totaling 203,119 TEUs in the first two months of 2024.
As for ship operations, February saw 74 dockings, with 48 at the Portonave Private Use Terminal (TUP), 12 at the Port of Itajaí, 3 at the TEPORTI TUP, 10 at the Barra do Rio TUP, 1 at the Braskarne TUP, and no activity at the POLY TERMINAIS TUP.
At the Port of Itajaí, total cargo throughput reached 33,303 in February, with 70,681 tonnes in the year-to-date. At the Portonave Terminal (Navegantes Port), cargo throughput in February totaled 1,081,067 tons and 106,075 TEUs. In the period comprising January and February, the complex handled 2,033,469 tons and 203,089 TEUs.
Compared to other Private Use Terminals (TUP), Poly Terminais did not record activities in February, while the Teporti terminal demonstrated significant throughput, totaling 12,103 tons during the same period, and the Braskarne terminal handled 3,022 tons.
In February, the Port of Itajaí received the Uniscout John’s ship (sugar cargo) at public berths 03 and 04. It is 132.20 meters long and 15.87 meters wide, flying the Antigua and Barbuda flag, and was loaded with 8,250 tons of sugar.
Another noteworthy aspect of ship operations in February was the docking of 9 cruise ships from the 2023/2024 season, including the MSC Lirica, MSC Armonia, and Costa Favolosa. According to the Municipal Secretariat of Tourism and Events, it is estimated that 110,000 cruise tourists will pass through Itajaí by early April, the end of the current season, potentially generating over R$ 60 million.
