Voltalia Energia do Brasil, a company dedicated to renewable energies, has formalized a memorandum of understanding with Suape Port, establishing a close collaboration for the development of low-carbon emission industrial projects, including green hydrogen, green ammonia, and e-methanol, at the Suape Port Industrial Complex.
The agreement has an initial duration of 180 days, starting from October 30, 2023. It’s worth noting that the company is already involved in projects in Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte.
Voltalia’s proposed green hydrogen factory utilizes water electrolysis, typically powered by renewable electricity, to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The resulting hydrogen is captured, stored, and used as a clean energy source in various sectors, such as transportation and power generation.
These business projects hold significant expansion potential, especially with the rules for production in Brazil being defined by the Chamber of Deputies, pending confirmation from the Senate. Pernambuco Senator Fernando Dueire is one of the rapporteurs on this matter.
Guilherme Cavalcanti, Secretary of Development, explained that the project announced during Cop28 is focused on research and development, starting with a laboratory-scale project integrating the TecHub H2v under construction with SENAI in Suape.
Voltalia plans to allocate a portion of the project for fertilizer production and another for export to Europe, with the company already selecting three areas in the port complex.
During Cop28, Governor Raquel Lyra launched the State Green Hydrogen Strategy, mentioning a R$20 million investment in an experimental H2V production plant at the Port of Suape.
Voltalia, self-proclaimed as a global leader in renewable energies, boasts an installed capacity of over 2.6 GW in operation and construction, engaging in the entire renewable energy value chain from project development to energy sales.
The company develops, constructs, operates, and sells renewable energy in 20 countries, encompassing wind, solar, hydro, and biomass energy.
In Brazil, where Voltalia has been present for over 15 years, the company has around 1.4 GW in operation and construction, focusing on the Serra Branca cluster, the world’s largest hybrid complex (wind and solar) in Rio Grande do Norte. Additionally, Voltalia provides operation and maintenance services for renewable energy plants, overseeing 2.9 GW in the country, with a pipeline of 7 GW in projects distributed across various states.
