New crop boosts activities at the Port of Paranaguá
Jul, 27, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202230
Even though July has not come to an end, the number of trucks passing through the Port of Paranaguá’s sorting yard has already exceeded the total recorded during the same period last year.
From July 1st to the 24th, 36,901 vehicles arrived at the port, bringing cargo from outside. Last year, during the entire month, 33,994 trucks went through the sorting process.
The arrival of the product at the port is growing as corn reaping progresses in the country, with particular emphasis on the state of Paraná, where the harvest is more than 30% complete. The peaks of trucks entering the yard daily this week have reached an average of 1,500 trucks/day.
On the busiest day of the month, the average was 2,000 trucks in 24 hours.
Products
Corn – both in grain and bran – stands out among the cargoes that Paranaguá received in July.
While no trucks carrying these two products had entered the Port of Paranaguá Sorting Yard as of July 2021, this year, the port terminals have already received 5,707 trucks laden with 221,333.5 tonnes of grain, primarily from Paraná.
Another 768 trucks arrived with 29,328.62 corn bran. The latter originated in the state of Mato Grosso (MT).
Expectations
The most notable rise predicted for this third quarter (July to September) is the volume of corn to be loaded: 2,071,000 million tonnes – 3,256% higher than the amount shipped in the same timeframe in 2021 (61,709 t).
So far in the month, 247,656 tonnes of grain have been shipped in bulk. In 2021, there were only 1,464 tonnes shipped, but in containers—nothing in bulk.
