New FIL maritime trade lane increases Asia’s participation at TCP

The Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP in Portuguese) has now another maritime service departing from East Asia. The FIL (Far East-India-Latin America Service) is the result of a partnership with the Korean shipowner HMM (Hyundai Merchant Marine). The first vessels are expected to arrive in Paranaguá on January 20th, 2022.
The first voyage of the new lane left Busan, South Korea, on December 7, 2021, connecting East Asia to South America. The service starts with a fortnightly calls notwithstanding HMM’s intention to gradually increase the fleet until ships can call weekly at Paranaguá.
With FIL in operation, TCP has now seven regular services to the Far East.
For exporters, FIL will serve the reefer, wood, agribusiness, paper, and cellulose chains, increasing the space offer and strengthening freight competitiveness among services departing the terminal. For importers, the new lane will mainly serve the electronic, automotive, textile, and chemical sectors, being the possibility of a direct connection to India without the need for transshipment in other countries one of the points that stand out the most.
HMM’s FIL (Far East-India-Latin America Service) will connect East Asia to South America in the following rotation: Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Kattupalli, Durban, Santos, Paranaguá, Itapoá, Navegantes, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan.
