Three new weighbridges have been installed at the Port of São Francisco do Sul, promising faster truck movement. The equipment has been set up at the new access point, which received authorization to commence operations on Wednesday, the 5th, from the Federal Revenue Service. With these additions, the port now boasts five weighbridges, effectively tripling the daily flow of vehicles.
The recently inaugurated entrance gate, operational since Thursday, the 6th, is expected to significantly improve truck entry and exit procedures. Previously, with only two weighbridges, an average of 500 vehicles passed through the port daily. However, with the introduction of five weighbridges, the capacity has increased to accommodate up to 1,500 trucks per day. The two additional scales have been installed at Gate 1, the only operational entrance since the 1990s. Consequently, the new access point will streamline traffic flow near the port, minimizing queues.
The new access features cutting-edge technology for vehicle inspection. Notably, it is the first public port in the country to implement biometric recognition of drivers through palm scanning. The equipment has been installed atop accessible totems, eliminating the need for drivers to exit their trucks. Additionally, the OCR system enables automatic gate opening by reading and identifying vehicle license plates through cameras.
The completion of this project has been highly anticipated, as it promises a significant improvement in operational efficiency. According to a spokesperson, “The new gate will enhance cargo handling processes, making them more efficient and agile while also prioritizing safety and reducing truck queues.” It should be noted that the new gate will be exclusively dedicated to truck entry, while the other gate will be used for truck exits. The current administration has diligently worked over the past six months to fulfill all the requirements stipulated by the Federal Revenue Service to open the new access point.
