NTS – Nova Transportadora do Sudeste S.A. – and GNA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which represents the first step towards initiating the feasibility studies required prior to licensing a new gas pipeline that will be known as GASINF. The duct intends to connect GNA’s Natural Gas Thermoelectric Park at the Port of Açu to the NTS transport network in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro state.

According to the agreement, NTS is responsible for the project’s development, including conducting the technical studies, for the implementation of the gas pipeline of approximately 105 kilometers and additional assets required to connect the GNA’s Thermoelectric Park which includes an LNG Regasification Terminal and two thermoelectric plants, to the Cabiúnas Terminal in Macaé.

The pipeline will allow the flow of produce on both ways and it is designed to receive up to 15 MMm³/d of natural gas from the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), moored at the port’s LNG Terminal, and deliver up to 16 MMm³/d, favoring the development of industries in the north of the state, mainly in Açu, in the municipality of São João da Barra.

“As a bidirectional gas pipeline, the GASINF will allow GNA to develop different business models, working as a fundamental element to ensure commercial flexibility and enable the installation of new industries that use natural gas in the Port of Açu, as they will have access to pre-salt outflow routes,” says Hélder Ferraz, Commercial Director of NTS.

“The potential connection of our asset to the national pipeline network would encourage the development of numerous business opportunities based on natural gas exploration, as well as the consolidation of our Gas and Energy Hub at the Port of Açu. Following the completion of the studies, the project will be a watershed moment for the industrialization of the state of Rio de Janeiro, attracting new investment and creating more jobs,” says Bernardo Perseke, GNA’s CEO.

The project is subject to approval by the Company’s management bodies, as well as by the competent government bodies.
