The International Sugar Organization has projected a global sugar deficit of 3.8 million tons in the 2021/22 season.
The figure is higher than the May estimate of a 2.6 million ton deficit and is also above the median of a survey published by Reuters the previous week, which saw a deficit of 2.0 million tons.
In a quarterly report on market prospects, the intergovernmental body indicated that production is expected to register a marginal increase of 0.2% in the next season, which starts in October, to 170.6 million tons. Consumption should advance by 1.6%, to 174.5 million tons.
