Oncorp to invest BRL 2 bln in regasification terminal at Suape

The Brazilian holding company Oncorp will invest BRL 2 billion in a liquefied natural gas regasification terminal at the Port of Suape in Ipojuca, Pernambuco state. According to the release, the contract with the government of Pernambuco has already been signed and includes a supply partnership with Shell.
The terminal, better known as Regás, is an old ambition of Suape, which gained momentum when the port regained autonomy in managing its bids in October. Before, this function was in the hands of the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq), which suspended the auction for the regasification terminal at the beginning of the year before biddings were submitted.
When Suape regained its power to organize tenders on its own, Oncorp presented the only bid that was qualified, in competition with CH4 Energia, Compass Gás e Energia, and Ultracargo Logística. The company is active in the energy sector in Brazil and Argentina.
As the winner of the dispute, the holding won the contract for using the Multiple Use Pier (CMU) located at the port, which will operate exclusively for this type of service.
Shell will participate in the supply of gas for Oncorp’s operation. Termopernambuco, a 498 MW thermoelectric plant that won last year’s capacity reserve auction, will be one of the first companies to receive fuel from the multinational via the new terminal.
The terminal has a leased area of 33,375 square meters. The Port of Suape will be compensated for the concession of the site in the amount of R$ 6,295,860 over 48 months.
The investment includes expenses for the waterway reception system, pier and mooring infrastructure, gas pipeline, and custody transfer station, in addition to the lease. When completed, the terminal will employ approximately 240 people.
