Orange juice: exported volume falls in the 2021/22 season

According to researchers from the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics of the University of São Paulo (Cepea – USP), exports of orange juice in concentrated equivalent ended the 2021/22 season with a slight drop of 3% compared to the previous one. Nevertheless, between July 2021 and June 2022, shipments to all destinations totaled just over one million tonnes, according to Secex data.
Revenue totaled US$ 1.68 billion, an increase of 9% in the same comparison frame. According to Cepea researchers, this is the second consecutive harvest in which shipments closed with a slight decrease in volume. One of the reasons for this is the low orange production in the citrus belt (state of São Paulo and Triângulo Mineiro region) in the past two seasons (2020/21 and 2021/22) which reduced carryover stocks. In the case of revenue, the increase was linked to high average prices in dollars.
