Jul, 28, 2023 Posted by Lillian SmoakWeek 202331
Orange juice exports reached 2.5 million tons in 2022/23 and should reach 3 million tons in 2032/2033, which represents an increase of 21.9% over the next 10 years.
The data are from the study Projections of Agribusiness Brazil 2022/23 to 2032/33, carried out by the Agricultural Policy Secretariat, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa).
Orange juice exports
Brazil has been exporting orange juice to 100 countries in 2023, according to a survey by the Brazilian Agribusiness Foreign Trade Statistics platform (Agrostat), with revenues from January to May of this year of US$ 883.0 million in 1 million tons exported.
Total orange juice projections indicated an annual growth rate of 1.9% for exports over the next 10 years.
Brazil represents 75.8% of the total orange juice exported around the world in the year 2022/2023, according to an estimate by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).
Mexico is the second largest exporter of orange juice, but with a small share of the global market.
The volumes of juice destined by Brazil to the main buyers tend to be stable. The main consumers of orange juice are the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and China.

International market challenges
According to analysts, the most recent facts about the world economy and the market for fruit juices and drinks, in addition to the danger of diseases in orchards, show that the expansion of the activity is limited, mainly in the state of São Paulo, with the difficulty of controlling diseases that attack orchards, such as greening.
Trade restrictions in the form of trade barriers and changes in consumer habits are the main factors limiting the expansion of orange juice. There is no expectation that protectionism will decrease during the projection period, on the contrary, it may increase.
orange production
Orange production should increase from 16.8 million tons in the 2023 harvest to 17.7 million tons in 2032/33, an increase of 5.1%. Production should have an annual growth of around 0.5% over the next ten years, according to the same survey.
The planted area should suffer a reduction in the coming years. It should increase from the current 656 thousand hectares to 572 thousand. According to the IBGE, productivity has dropped a lot in recent years in Brazil.
