Ornamental stone sector records best YTD November results in 6 years

(The Brazilian ornamental stone sector registered the best YTD partial result (January – November), in the last six years. Exports increased 36.20% when compared to the same period last year. By November, the sector earned 1.22 billion dollars of revenue with the export of 2,213,000 tons.
The data were released by ‘Centrorochas’ (Brazilian association of ornamental stone exporters). In partnership with ApexBrasil (Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments), the association is promoting the sectorial project called ‘It’s Natural – Brazilian Natural Stone’, which aims to stimulate and increase exports of Brazilian ornamental stones. The expectation of the segment is to end 2021 at over 1.31 billion dollars, the best result in the history of the sector.
Considering only November, the sector’s exports reached 138.24 million dollars, an increase of 37.86% compared to the same period in 2020. “If we did not have a container shortage, the numbers would be much better”, said the president of Centrorochas, Tales Machado.
Largest exporting states
Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, and Ceará were the three states that exported the most ornamental stones throughout the year, compared to the same period last year. The state of Espírito Santo ranked first in the ranking, increasing 37.13% in revenue and exporting 1.01 billion dollars’ of stones; Minas reached sales of 121.4 million dollars and an increase of 14.7%. Ceará, third in the national ranking, accumulated a total of 36.1 million dollars, registering a growth of 55%.
Despite ranking in the top three for several months, the three states have different characteristics like the main consumer markets. For example, analyzing only exports in November this year, Espírito Santo sent materials mainly to the United States (69.1%) and China (8.6%); Minas Gerais mainly exported to China (34.7%) and the United States (19.4%); while Ceará exported mainly to the United States (61.4%) and Italy (33.1%).
