Paraguay records more than USD 17,300 million in exports until December

The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP in Spanish) reports that the country’s total exports reached USD 17,311.7 million by December 2023, marking a significant increase of 24.8% compared to the USD 13,866.3 million observed by December of the previous year.
The International Trade Report (Comex) from the BCP provides a breakdown, revealing that recorded exports accounted for 68.7% of the total, reaching USD 11,890.5 million, signifying a 19.5% surge compared to the cumulative value until December 2022.
Reexports, constituting 25.3% of the total, recorded a value of USD 4,377.4 million, reflecting a year-to-date increase of 40.9%. Other exports, with a 6.0% share, saw a growth of 28.8%, reaching a level of USD 1,043.8 million. The notable increase in recorded exports is primarily attributed to higher shipments of soybeans, rice, and soy flour.
Shipments under the maquila regime amounted to USD 1,019.0 million, representing a 1.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2022.
By December 2023, total imports reached USD 15,680.1 million, marking a 3.1% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Recorded imports accounted for 96.0% of the total, reaching USD 15,056.3 million, reflecting a 3.1% increase compared to the value of the same period in 2022, while other imports constituted the remaining 4.0%, totaling USD 623.8 million. In terms of volume, a 3.4% reduction was observed.
Finally, the foreign trade balance in the last month of 2023 recorded a surplus of USD 1,631.6 million.
