Paraguay’s National Customs Authority (DNA in Spanish) reported a 24% surplus in customs revenue collection at the end of April compared to the same month last year.
Paraguay’s customs revenue at the end of the fourth month of the year surpassed one billion guaraní (147 million dollars), that is, 24 percentage points above the 814.508 million guaraní registered in April 2021, which is the highest historical collection achieved in all the months of April.
According to DNA, customs payments collected in April were much higher than the four-year average for the same month, roughly 747.829 million guaranís.
“It’s worth mentioning that such growth is occurring during a process of implementing enhancements in the control of some international trade activities, giving greater transparency and formalization to these transactions,” the DNA study states.
With the result obtained in April, the accumulated revenue of the first quarter of the year was above 4.2 billion guaranís (612 million dollars), 25.2% above the earned income of 3.3 billion guaranís recorded in April last year, says the customs report.
The entity indicates that “April is the fourth consecutive month that closes with a surplus, thus leading to an average monthly collection of more than one billion guaranís owning to the economic recovery in place since last year.”
The report also indicates that 67.5% of the total revenue recorded in April 2022 came from imports from five countries. China, for example, represents 25.3% of the total revenue, while Brazil represents 18.9%, Argentina, 13.7%, the United States, 6.2%, and, finally, Russia represents 3.3% with around 99 million dollars.
One can also see that the charges for imports from outside the region (China, USA, and Russia) have increased considerably compared to last year. On the other hand, intra-zone import collections (Brazil and Argentina) registered a sharp decrease in relation to the previous year regarding relative participation.
