Pilar Port, located on the banks of the Paraguay River in Ñeembucú and managed by Paraguay’s ANNP (National Administration of Navigation and Ports), is preparing to load its first cargo, a barge exporting vegetable oil to Central America, following modernization works which were inaugurated mid-January.

US$10m was invested in port development to boost Paraguay’s international trade. Some of the works carried out included the extension of the port’s mooring dock, construction of covered areas, development of the container yard, and maintenance/repairs of equipment such a 45-ton crane, forklifts, tractors etc. According to a report by La Nación earlier this week, more than 20 trucks were lined up to unload the cargo destined for Central America.
