Paraguay’s wheat exports dip on smaller harvest and higher consumption
Apr, 24, 2023 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202320
Paraguay’s wheat exports have decreased by 58,000 tonnes between October 2022 and March 2023. According to the Paraguayan Grains and Oilseed Traders Association (Capeco), shipments remain stagnant due to lower production and high domestic demand, which reduces the exportable surplus.
During this period, 89.22 thousand tonnes were shipped, compared to 147.464 thousand from October 2021 to March 2022.
The lower volume of exports also means a decrease in foreign exchange earnings. According to data from the Central Bank of Paraguay, from January to March, $13.8 million did not enter the country compared to the first quarter of last year.
