The ports of Paranagua and Antonina invested BRL 146.1 million in improvement works throughout 2022. The funds were used to pay for services, enhancement works, and projects linked to maritime and land access to the terminals. From 2019 until now, approximately R$ 543.8 million has been invested by the public company Portos do Paraná.
Continued dredging works and bedside removal were some of the central interventions to improve the maritime infrastructure. This was the fourth year of the Continued maintenance dredging program at the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina, which will run until May 2024.
Within the limits of the Port of Paranagua, the management team also opted for the demolition of a 10,000-tonne silo that was no longer usable. As a result, the port gained a new operational area on the west side. Seven new health support structures were also built for workers in the port area.
The public pier destined for moving inflammable products also underwent restoration works and gained new structure protection assets.
According to the director of engineering and maintenance of Portos do Paraná, Victor Kengo, in 2022, around R$ 40.3 million were invested in general works alone, such as road signs, modifications in paved areas, cleaning of rainwater drainage and sewage system, maritime safety measures and other civil, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic maintenance actions.
“We also invested this year in adapting the port facilities to meet international security standards for access control and monitoring,” he went on.
Also noteworthy were the project preparation and execution of the revitalization and modernization of the automation system employed at the Port of Paranaguá’s export corridor (COREX).
Community – Among the investments made by the public company that benefits local residents are the new warehouses, built as an environmental compensation measure in Rocio and Valadares, both regions in Paranagua, in addition to Ponta da Pita and Portinho, in Antonina.
