The movement of soybeans and fertilizers led the Ports of Paranaguá and Antonina to record their best February in history and, consequently, the highest volume handled in the first two months of the year. In total, February saw the movement of 6,108,452 tons of goods and products, a 14% increase compared to the previous record set in February 2024, when volume reached 5,350,437 tons.
“The harvest of the 2024/2025 soybean crop is in full swing across Brazil, and this performance is directly reflected in our ports’ operations. Meanwhile, fertilizers continue to lead imports, with Paraná’s ports currently accounting for 26% of total national fertilizer imports,” said Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná.
On the export side, soybean shipments totaled 1,693,175 tons, a 37% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 1,236,014 tons were shipped. Containerized cargo also grew, reaching 734,240 tons, up 4% from February last year. Meanwhile, soybean meal exports rose by 14%, from 380,326 to 434,118 tons.
“Frozen poultry remains the leading export in containerized shipments, representing 31.6% of all container exports from Paraná’s ports. We continue to be the world’s largest export hub for frozen chicken,” highlighted Gabriel Vieira, Portos do Paraná’s Director of Operations.
In percentage terms, the standout product in February was vegetable oils, which surged by 255% compared to February 2024. Another strong performer was cellulose, with a 91% increase in exports.
On the import side, fertilizers remain the top product, with 1,028,476 tons unloaded at Paraná’s ports, an 11% increase. The volume of goods received in containers at the Port of Paranaguá reached 598,731 tons, up 1% compared to February 2024. Barley also stood out, with 96,992 tons imported, marking a 53% growth.
