TCP, the company that manages the Paranagua Container Terminal, inked an agreement officializing the purchase of eleven Rubber Tyred Gantries (RTGs). The move is part of a larger package of investments contracted by the container terminal, currently the largest in South America, which includes new equipment, an expansion in the storage capacity of reefer containers, new accesses, and systems.
Each new equipment has a lifting capacity of 41 tonnes under spreader plus a stacking capacity of 6+1. They have an ergonomic design and state-of-the-art preventive safety sensors, providing more comfort to operators and operational safety. The expected arrival of the new cranes is for December 2023.
The terminal is controlled by the Chinese group CMPort and the new machinery is part of a larger investment plan. The company will purchase a second batch of 10 RTG cranes by 2025. TCP is also increasing its capacity for reefer container storage by 43%, from 3,624 to 5,178 outlets.
Additionally, entrance gates will be renovated, an exclusive application for truck drivers will be implemented, and longer operating windows for double trucks will be implemented, improving service for third-party trucks.
TCP CEO James Cao stated, “We are committed to improving the terminal infrastructure and increasing productivity to satisfy the demands of our customers. As members of CMPort, our mission is to develop TCP into a logistics solutions leader in South America.”
