Paranaguá installs new meteorological station to prevent accidents

Portos do Paraná has implemented its own meteorological station to provide real-time measurements and alerts on atmospheric conditions at the Port of Paranaguá. The tool can be accessed by the entire port community, serving to prevent work accidents.
“The activity requires working at heights and synchronization with some weather and weather conditions. The station allows the Occupational Health and Safety Management and the Operations team to set off alarms for adverse conditions”, explains João Paulo Ribeiro Santana, Environment Director at the public company.
The WS 18 equipment works with the Plugfield application, available for cell phones with Android and IOS systems. The GPS module allows you to measure rainfall, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and ultraviolet rays.
According to Santana, the tool will help navigators, not only on large vessels (many already have similar equipment) but also on small ones. “The Navy already issues its alerts, but the tugboats and support boats could have the meteorological station at the pier and all its data on their cell phones, in the palm of their hands, in real-time”, emphasizes Santana.
The new equipment works with a lithium battery that can last up to 8 days and is powered by solar energy.
Alerts – Even with the availability of the application, Portos do Paraná will continue issuing warnings of adverse weather conditions in the port area. “The alerts for wind speed, pressure, among others, will be maintained so that the community can prepare preventively”, says the manager of Health and Safety at Work, José Sbravatti.
Those interested in learning about and using the application and its functions must download the Plugfield from the Google Play (Android) or App Store (iPhone) application stores and use the login “comunidadeportuaria.pr” and the password “comunidadeportuaria”.
