Paranaguá Port Sets 100 Tons of Soybeans Handled Per Minute Record

Off the coast of Paraná, the Port of Paranaguá achieved a historic milestone in cargo throughput, handling a record-breaking 146 thousand tonnes of soybeans within just 24 hours, equivalent to over 100 tons per minute. This achievement, accomplished between April 20th and 21st, surpasses the previous record set in August 2019 by 5%, which stood at 138,988.98 tons. The cargo, handled across three berths, was destined for China and Spain.

Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná, credited this success to investments in port management, stating, “These figures reflect the significant investments made in port management by Paraná’s ports in recent years.” Garcia underscored the importance of these results for the involved companies, noting that eight terminals managed to ship over a thousand tons per hour per piece of equipment. He deemed this achievement impressive, attributing it to annual maintenance and port logistics expertise.

Setting new benchmarks

In addition to the remarkable daily throughput, the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina have achieved eight consecutive monthly productivity records since August 2023. The latest record was in March, with 5,968,934 tons handled, marking an 11% increase compared to 2023’s 5,357,799 tonnes.

Regarding exports, soybeans and sugar commodities stand out, while fertilizers dominate imports in volume.
