The container ship MSC C. Montaine, which arrived at the Port of Paranaguá this Sunday (31), claimed the title of the largest vessel ever to berth in the ports of Paraná in terms of capacity. Measuring 366 meters long and 51 meters wide, the ship surpasses its sister vessels MSC Elisa XIII and MSC Natasha XIII, which were received in January and February this year. The two sister ships measure 366 meters long and 48.20 meters wide.
MSC C. Montaine boasts a capacity of up to 15,413 TEUs, which is 6.7% greater than the cargo capacity of MSC Elisa XIII and MSC Natasha XIII (14,432 TEUs).
“The Port of Paranaguá was the first Brazilian port to receive official authorization to accommodate a ship of this size and also the first to handle New Panamax ships. The quality of our infrastructure, coupled with operational security, enables us to routinely accommodate these new vessels, showcasing the capacity and reliability of our port,” emphasized Gabriel Vieira, the operations director of Portos do Paraná.
Portos do Paraná invested in demolition works and dredging services to deepen the channel to receive these mega-ships. Currently, at the container terminal, the draft, which is the depth between the lowest point of the ship and the waterline, measures 12.3 meters in both the main and alternative channels.
