On Monday, January 24, the first project cargo of 2022 was sent from mooring berth 215 at the commercial port of Paranaguá. In total, eight pieces of mining industry equipment, each weighing eight tons, were sent to Central America.
“Project loads are types of cargo with high added value that we see a lot here at the Port of Paranaguá. In 2022, it shall be no different,” says Luiz Teixeira da Silva Júnior, the operations director at the port. In addition to berth 215, this type of cargo is also shipped by berths 216, 217, and 218.
The industrial components, manufactured in Minas Gerais, were loaded in the hold of a Roll on – Roll off ship (a large capacity freighter that allows four-wheeled cargoes to enter and leave the ship by their own means). At Paranaguá, the companies Marcon, Orion, and the TCP group operate this type of vessel.
Operation
Aldemar Marques Moreira, operations manager and foreman at the Marcon group, explains that this operation requires large forklifts and qualified operators, in addition to transport to the ship.
The work is carried out by the cooperatives that operate in the primary strip of the Port of Paranaguá. All cargo handling on land, including loading and unloading, storage, and landing is called a foreman service at the port.
In collaboration with the public port administration, port operators have departments dedicated solely to this function. In addition to access, cleaning, and security of the quay area, Portos do Paraná provides a yard area for storage.
