The Ministry of Ports and Airports announced the first port lease auction of the year for the end of April. It will include three units for solid vegetable bulk at the Port of Paranaguá, with investment amounts reaching R$1.38 billion. In addition to PAR14, PAR15, and PAR25 terminals, the Federal Government will auction another terminal in Rio de Janeiro (RDJ11) and one in Porto Alegre (POA26).

According to the Minister of Ports and Airports, Sílvio Costa Filho, the new leases consider the projected growth of agricultural cargo expected to pass through Paranaguá in the coming decades. “The estimate is that the investments will double the port’s agricultural crop transport capacity, opening opportunities for the export of an additional 20 million tons per year.”

Scheduled to take place at B3 in São Paulo on April 30, the first port auction of the year, in addition to expanding logistics activity for the transportation of agricultural production, will ensure modern, efficient, and safe transport infrastructure. This year, the Ministry of Ports and Airports is expected to auction at least 20 port units across four country regions.

For the National Secretary of Ports, Alex Ávila, the modernization and expansion of the capacity of Brazilian port units promote the decentralization of cargo movement and make our products even more competitive. “The leasing policy, with investments in ports across the country, guides economic growth and promotes socioeconomic development.”

Between 2013, when the Port Law was changed, and 2022, the Federal Government conducted 40 port unit auctions. Since 2023, the Ministry of Ports and Airports has conducted 11 leases and plans to carry out another 40 by the end of 2026.
