Pécem cargo handling up 70% YoY in May

Cargo handling at the Pecém port terminal reached 1,708.897 tons, 70% higher than in May 2020, when 1,007,547 tons were handled. May of last year was the slowest month in the port of Ceará due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Compared to the same month last year, the import of markers alone in May 2021 totaled 1,212,619 tons, an increase of 77% compared to May 2020 handling. Exports totaled 496,278 tons and increased 53% compared to May 2020.

Year to Date Handling
The year-to-date handling in 2021 (January to May) resulted in 8,459,115 tons, a growth of 24% over the same period in 2020, which was 6,844,801 tons. Imports so far this year have increased 29% over 2020, reaching 5,883,856 tons. In 2020, they totaled 4,576,203 tons.
Exports totaled 2,268,598 tons in 2020. In 2021, they have already reached 2,575,258 tons, a growth of 14% over 2020.
Handling by navigation means
Cabotage navigation handled 4,869,507 tons, an increase of 39% over 2020. In cabotage landings, the main products handled were: ores (1,790,717 tons); mineral fuels (520,317 tons); cereals (227,560 tons); and cast iron (217,084 tons). Cabotage shipments handled cast iron (411,857 tons); mineral fuels (229,450 tons); salt (212,562 tons); and products from the milling industry (85,598 tons).
Long-haul shipping totaled 3,589,607 tons, an increase of 8% over 2020. Liquid bulk totaled 2,177,875 tons (up 61%), loose cargo totaled 1,015,688 tons (28%), bulk solid totaled 209,122 tons – (6%), and containerized cargo totaled 186,922 tons (5%).
In long-haul imports, the main products handled were: mineral fuels (2,016,503 tons); cast iron (266,497 tons); ores (111,077 tons); and machines (18,868 tons). The highlights of long-haul shipments were cast iron (731,565 tons); mineral fuels (121,096 tons); ores (109,500 tons) ;and fruits (74,223 tons).
