As part of its efforts to diversify its cargo portfolio, the Port of Pecém launched an operation on January 14 to ship a record volume of 15 tons of granite to Europe. This is the most granite ever shipped from a single Ceará port.
The rocks, which were extracted from Ceará and other Northeastern states, will be shipped on January 27 to Marina Di Carrara, Italy, where they will arrive after 20 days.
“That is a new business front that the Port of Pecém, which working to diversify its export portfolio, sees a strong growth potential”, says Carlos Alberto Nunes, commercial manager at Tecer Terminais, the company in charge of operations at Pecém.
The Ceará terminal received a nacelle (component where wind generators are installed) shipped from the Port of Bilbao, Spain, earlier this week. On the same ship, there were 21 72.1-meter-long wind turbine blades bound for Lirquen, Chile. This was deemed an “ideal logistics operation” because it reduced costs for importers and exporters by using a single vessel.
On the 15th, 115 thousand tons of manganese ore were shipped to China. The cargo was extracted in the municipality of Pentecoste (80 kilometers from Fortaleza), by Zeus Mineração.
