Pérola Terminal signs new transition agreement for terminal at Santos

Pérola Terminal renewed its transitional contract with the Santos Port Authority (Codesp) on March 27 to maintain operations for another 180 days at the Outerinhos area on the right margin of the Port of Santos. The new contract took effect on April 2. The terminal handles solid bulk ores.
The transitional contract follows a failed attempt to auction off the port area, known as STS20, by the National Water Transportation Agency (Antaq) last year. Antaq estimated investments of R$219m from a new 25-year contract but the auction was canceled due to a lack of interested parties. The 29,200 square meter area has three warehouses – warehouse XII and XVII, and the Salt Warehouse (T-8). Antaq has reported it will make adjustments to the bidding documents in order to conduct a new licitation process for the area.
Codesp renewed the contract with Pérola Terminal to ensure cargo movement continues until a new tenant shows interest in the port area. According to the agreement, Pérola must handle a minimum of 41,667 tons of cargo per month.
