Platform P-33 Breaks Free from Moorings at Port of Açu

Sindipetro-NF has reported that Platform P-33, currently out of operation and being dismantled at the Port of Açu in São João da Barra (RJ), had its moorings broken on the morning of August 13. The incident has been attributed to adverse weather conditions. No workers were on board at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Access to the unit had been restricted the day before due to weather warnings. On Tuesday, around 10 a.m., the moorings were breached. Tugboats were dispatched to secure the unit in place, and procedures for replacing the moorings are underway.
After the breach, around 11 a.m., the platform collided with an access scaffold structure, causing the equipment to topple. According to initial reports from the Health Department of Sindipetro-NF, no injuries were reported, and the area, which was already cordoned off, will remain so.
Since the platform is located at a port rather than in the open sea, reestablishing the moorings involves less complex operations than cases like P-19 and P-38, which were also recently on the news.
Platform P-33 was one of the units operating in the Marlim field in the Campos Basin. Petrobras auctioned it in 2023 for decommissioning. The winning bid was awarded to Gerdau S/A in partnership with the shipyard Ecovix.
