In a coordinated effort, Brazil’s Federal Revenue and Federal Police confiscated 276kg of cocaine at the Port of Itaguaí on Monday (12). The illicit substance was cleverly concealed within a shipment of 2,400 boxes containing frozen poultry cuts, with its final destination planned for South Africa, after a call at the port of Algeciras in Spain.
The estimated value of the seized drugs is BRL 70 million.
To determine which cargoes undergo inspection, the Federal Revenue employs a meticulous selection process based on objective criteria, including risk analysis and verification using scanner images. This method ensures the expediency of foreign trade operations while actively combatting customs violations within the Itaguaí port complex.
Upon confirming the seizure, the Federal Revenue Service promptly engaged the Federal Police to conduct necessary judicial procedures on behalf of the government. On-site forensic expertise will also be carried out to provide valuable insights for the forthcoming police investigation.
