The Federal Police, in a joint action with the COE (Special Operations Command) of the Military Police of São Paulo and the Federal Revenue Service, removed 64 tablets of cocaine that were hidden in the hull of a ship in the early hours of Wednesday (17) at the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo.
The Navy and the Port Authority of Santos collaborated on the operation. According to the police, the vessel containing solid bulk destined for Italy was en route but had to anchor in the Port of Santos’s anchorage region after damage caused by the cyclone-derived wind gusts seen last week.
The Brazilian Federal Police had already received information about possible drug trafficking on the vessel. Therefore, the order was given to dock the ship for inspection. During the examination, the existence of the drug was confirmed.
The police removed 64 cocaine tablets from the ship’s sea chest, a compartment located in the hull, below the waterline, intended for the supply of seawater for cooling and other functions. Divers from COE accessed the compartment.
The federal authorities initiated an investigation, and the drug was seized.
