With the fertilizer import market heated up, the port of Ponta do Félix, located in Antonina, on the coast of Paraná, is working on expanding its storage area by 78%.
The works include new warehouses and sheds, which will be delivered in stages, with 40,000 tonnes delivered in September and two other warehouses, with a capacity of 40,000 tonnes each, in January and April 2023.
The terminal’s current static capacity is estimated at 270 thousand tonnes. Over the next few months, the expectation is to increase it gradually to 480 thousand tonnes.

According to the administration of Ports do Paraná, Porto Ponta do Félix saw a 373% growth in the volume of fertilizers between January and May this year: 572,045 tonnes in 2022 versus 120,852 in the same period in 2021.
“The arrival of fertilizer remains heated due to the growing demand and other market aspects that favor commercialization. However, even before this scenario developed, Antonina had already been preparing to serve this niche by expanding storage structures,” explains Gilberto Birkhan, president-director of the port of Ponta do Félix.
“We are keeping up with the new trends and increasing productivity at the terminal to serve importers better,” concludes Birkhan.
According to him, the port of Ponta do Félix grew by a greater percentage this year than last, owing primarily to the bonded warehouse, one of the terminal’s competitive advantages that allow greater flexibility in commercial negotiations and the quick generation of revolving credit to importers as their receipts serve to secure a discount of up to 80% of the value at banks.
The existence of the bonded storage house also greater agility in port operations, reducing eventual congestion in ports and warehouses.
