Pork Exports Grow 10% and Set Record in 2024

Data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) reveals that Brazil’s pork exports (including all products, both fresh and processed) reached 1.352 million tons between January and December 2024, setting a new record for the sector. This figure represents a 10% increase compared to 2023 when 1.229 million tons were exported.

The sector’s annual export revenue surpassed the $3 billion mark for the first time. A total of $3.033 billion was generated from pork exports in 2024, a 7.6% increase compared to the $2.818 billion recorded the previous year.

In December 2024, pork shipments totaled 109.5 thousand tons, a slight decrease of 1.3% compared to the same period in 2023, which registered 110.9 thousand tons. However, export revenue saw a significant jump of 11.6%, reaching $258.3 million in the last month of 2024, compared to $231.5 million in December 2023.

Among export destinations, the Philippines ended the year as the top buyer, importing 254.3 thousand tons between January and December 2024, a staggering 101.8% increase compared to 2023. China followed with 241 thousand tons (-38%), Chile with 113 thousand tons (+29.1%), Hong Kong with 106.9 thousand tons (-15.5%), Japan with 93.4 thousand tons (+131.6%), Singapore with 79.1 thousand tons (+23%), Vietnam with 52.5 thousand tons (+9.7%), Uruguay with 46.6 thousand tons (-5.2%), and Mexico with 42.8 thousand tons (+49.9%).

“The sector closed 2024 with a significant expansion in export reach, a notable increase in shipment revenue, and a rise in the average monthly export volume by more than 10,000 tons. The outlook remains positive for 2025, with expectations of sustained export flows to Asian and American markets,” said ABPA President Ricardo Santin.

Santa Catarina finished 2024 as Brazil’s leading pork exporter, with 730.7 thousand tons (+10.1%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul with 289.9 thousand tons (+3.2%), Paraná with 185.5 thousand tons (+9.1%), Mato Grosso with 37.9 thousand tons (+22%), and Mato Grosso do Sul with 29.2 thousand tons (+17.97%).
