“The pace of shipments seen in January helped relieve pressure on the production costs that have continued to rise this year, severely impacting the pork industry. Among these costs is the price of inputs such as corn and soybeans, services such as packing, and other items. Also, the industry is reinforcing institutional work with marketing campaigns at international events to increase international sales,” highlights ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
China remains the leading destination among the pork import markets, with 31,400 tonnes imported in January (-3.5%). Other highlights are the Philippines, with 4.4 thousand tons (+569.2%), Argentina, with 4.1 thousand tons (+58.8%), Singapore, with 3.4 thousand tons (+40.2%), Uruguay, with 3 thousand tons (+4.1%), Japan, with 2.1 thousand tons (+216.7%) and Russia, with 1.6 thousand tons (in the case of the Russian market, there are no comparative records compared to January 2021).
“The year started heated for Brazilian pork exports, which increased their presence in strategic markets, such as Japan and other Asian nations. Sales are also expected to increase to Eastern Europe”, analyzes Luís Rua, ABPA’s market director.
