According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Brazilian pork exports (included fresh and processed) totaled 146.1 thousand tonnes in the first two months of 2022. This volume is 1,3% higher than the one obtained in the same period of 2021 when 144.2 thousand tonnes were shipped.
The revenue earned in the first two months of this year reached US$ 308.2 million, a number 7.2% lower in comparison to 2021, when US$ 332.2 million were obtained.
In February alone, 71.5 thousand tonnes were sold, a volume 11.9% lower than the 81.1 thousand tonnes exported in the second month of last year. Through these shipments, US$ 147.4 million were pocketed, down 20.6% from February 2021 with US$ 185.7 million.
“In a historically restricted period for pork exports, shipments were in line with expectations. In the coming months, we expect to increase shipments and alleviate these historically high production costs faced by the pork industry,” emphasizes the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

China was the leading destination for Brazilian pork exports in the first two months of this year, importing 53 thousand tonnes (-28.5%). The Philippines, consolidating its position among the major importers, bought 9.6 thousand tonnes (+471.6%). Argentina came in second with 8.1 thousand tonnes (+76.6%), and Singapore came third with 7.3 thousand tonnes (+27.1%).
“There was a noticeable and predicted decline in this month’s figures since Chinese New Year purchases had already occurred in prior months. However, we noticed some indicators that point to the resumption of exports at their normal pace, which should have an impact on the outcome in the coming months,” says Luís Rua, ABPA’s director of markets.
