The port of Antonina, located in Paraná, successfully conducted an experiment on shipping bulk sugar as an export last Monday, the 14th. The operation included 16 thousand tonnes of raw sugar from the state of São Paulo, destined for Venezuela.
During the loading process onto the ship Irvine Bay, the productivity reached an impressive rate of 457 tons per hour, equating to approximately 11 thousand tons per day.
The raw sugar being exported is categorized as VHP (Very High Polarization), possessing lower moisture content and retaining the natural honey layer that coats the sugar crystals, lending it a color akin to honey. VHP sugar serves as a raw material for the refined sugar type commonly recognized and available in supermarkets worldwide.
Gilberto Birkhan, President of Porto Ponta do Félix, stated that the operation surpassed the established productivity targets.
In addition, the management highlights one of the principal advantages of utilizing Porto Ponta do Félix in Antonina, which is the streamlined operational time. Birkhan underscores, “Unlike other ports burdened with lengthy queues, averaging 15 days, and lacking additional space for the stipulated export volume, there are no mooring delays.”

Upcoming Investments
In the upcoming months, Porto Ponta do Félix is set to inaugurate new warehouses, facilitating an incremental storage capacity growth of 85%, from 280 thousand tons to 520 thousand tons, in a gradual manner.
Birkhan underscores the significance of increased static capacity, remarking that it opens up new market opportunities in various sectors. He points out, “Scheduled operations encompass not only coastal wheat transportation but also the import of soda ash, a sodium-based product utilized in food production.”
