The Port of Fortaleza, one of the country’s leading ports for wheat throughput, is set to increase its capacity further.
Tergran, a company operating at the port and formed by three industry giants (M. Dias Branco, J. Macêdo, and Grande Moinho Cearense), is expected to complete the installation of a ship unloader (suction system) imported from Belgium by the end of this month. This will significantly enhance the efficiency of the wheat unloading process.
The chart below compares the import volume of wheat cargo recorded at the Port of Fortaleza from January through July for the past three years. The information comes from DataLiner.

According to the company’s projections, the nominal unloading capacity, currently up to 600 tonnes per hour, will increase to up to 1,200 tonnes per hour.
“The acquisition of this equipment will bring us even more impressive results, highlighting the Port of Fortaleza’s potential for growth in the wheat sector—an essential segment for our state’s economy. Therefore, we are very optimistic about this new phase,” said Tergran’s General Director, Vanildo Muniz.
According to the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq), the Port of Fortaleza is one of the country’s largest wheat hubs. According to Tergran, the three companies processed over 1 million tonnes of wheat together last year.
