Last week, port authority SCPAR Porto de Imbituba approved the result of the public bidding session held to hire an engineering company to implement restoration and improvement works on the port’s Pier 3.
The winner was CEJEN Engenharia, from Paraná, with a proposed grant of R$ 92,097,500.00. Now, the process goes to its contract-signing phase.
Built over 40 years ago, Pier 3 is currently responsible for around 30% of the port’s cargo handling.
The work to be carried out at the berth will make it possible for larger vessels,s to dock at the site, going from the current limit of 205 meters in total length to ships as large as 271 meters.
The works will also allow the installation of new cargo handling equipment, such as a ship loader of up to 2,500 tons/hour, increasing operational capacity.
The execution of the improvement project is forecast to last 30 months in four different phases.
The contract holder will build two port dolphins, structurally reinforce the support piles, lay rigid pavement in a portion of the back customs and storage area, widen the berth by about 2.5 meters, and repair the asphalt both superficially and deeply during the 30-month period.
