Last Friday (30), the Port of Imbituba saw live cattle embarking onto the ship SHORTHORN EXPRESS.
With a well-structured logistics plan focused on ensuring animal welfare and achieving maximum efficiency, a total of 3,595 oxen were exported to Turkey. Imbituba is the sole port in Santa Catarina that handles live cargo. The shipment of calves at the port complex has been taking place since 2016, with the most recent export of this cargo occurring in November 2019.
Throughout Friday, the operation was closely monitored by officials from SCPAR Porto de Imbituba and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (MAPA). Agência Marítima Imbituba (AMIL) managed the ship and handled the customs clearance process, while Simetria Logística was responsible for the loading operations at the port.
The animals destined for the Eurasian market originate from rural properties in Brazil’s three southernmost states.
Fúlvio Rosar Neto, MAPA’s superintendent in Santa Catarina, explained that all the animals eligible for export possess an International Zoosanitary Certificate (CZI), which verifies their origin and compliance with the necessary sanitary requirements. “The Ministry of Agriculture oversees this process, and we closely monitored the shipment to ensure compliance with all legal regulations. Therefore, we consider this operation a success,” emphasized Fúlvio.
The SHORTHORN EXPRESS, a vessel exclusively used for animal transportation, is expected to complete the journey in approximately 18 days until its final destination.
“This operation was meticulously planned, and we paid extra attention and care even before the ship arrived at the port. Our team worked diligently to ensure swift service at the port complex, from providing access to the port to coordinating with all the involved parties. The collaborative and responsible efforts of all the agents involved contributed to the smooth execution of the operation as scheduled,” explained Luís Antonio Braga Martins, the director-president of SCPAR Porto de Imbituba.
