Port of Imbituba handles special operation to load 184-ton power transformer

Last weekend, the Port of Imbituba carried out a special operation for loading a large 184-ton power transformer on the Monte Sarmiento container ship. The port boarding operation required the simultaneous use of two MHC (Mobile Harbor Crane) land cranes, high-strength straps, and a qualified and highly specialized technical team.

The equipment was produced in Santa Catarina by the company WEG and arrived at the port by road. The mega-operation began with the transport of the transformer to the port, using special vehicles with axle lines, used for oversized and very heavy loads, allowing for stable and safe transport.

The ship proceeded towards the Port of Pecém, in Ceará, via the cabotage service provided by Aliança, with the Monte Sarmiento being part of its fleet. The destination port will take 10 days to reach. In Pecém, the transformer will be unloaded and transported again by road to the city of Serra do Mel, in Rio Grande do Norte.

Throughput increases in July

In July the Port of Imbituba registered 3.66% growth in cargo handling, compared to the volume handled in the same period last year which was 552,000 tonnes. Among the cargo transported last month, corn, coke, containers, and soybean stood out, which together accounted for around 70% of the throughput, in addition to salt, urea, shank, cellulose, fertilizers, and food in bags.
